TAC16 - AR15 / M16
.223 5.56mm SUPPRESSOR

The TAC16 suppressor has quickly become a top seller for AR15/M16 style firearms and has often been described as the perfect marriage of performance, strength and beauty. Its 100% precision CNC machined steel construction gives it the ability to withstand the pressures and heat from long bursts of full auto fire, making it an easy choice for M16 applications as well as for AR15 semi auto use. Simply unscrew your factory flashhider and replace it with a TAC16 suppressor and you'll know why the TAC16 continues to be a favorite of AR shooters. For a .223/5.56mm suppressor, get a TAC16 - THE CHOICE IS EASY!

  1. FULL AUTO RATED AND CAPABLE
The TAC16 suppressor is constructed to withstand full auto burst firing. It's made to easily handle a 100 round continuous burst from a full BETA C drum on a 20" Colt M16, as demonstrated in the accompanying 100 ROUND BETA C DUMP VIDEO CLIP. Of course with the heat generated by long bursts, the operator must periodically inspect the suppressor to ensure the integrity of the machined blast baffles, which are visible through the 1/2 x 28 threaded mounting hole. Blast baffles can be replaced by the manufacturer and the suppressor reassembled without any detriment to the assembly.

  2. 100% STEEL CONSTRUCTION

The ability to fire long full auto bursts requires a suppressor that is constructed of sufficient strength to withstand the substantial blast. The TAC16 suppressor is 100% manufactured from US certified steels to include the tube, endcap and all baffles and internals. The suppressor is matte black professionally hot blued for a finish that is as durable as it is attactive, and that is virtually unaffected by the extreme heat that is frequently encountered.

  3. OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE

Do you hate earmuffs when you shoot, especially in the hot summer? Do your neighbors wish you preferred golf to target shooting? Now you can shoot .223 / 5.56mm ammo and have it sound like a .22LR (due to the sonic crack generated by the bullet exceeding the speed of sound) with our TAC16 suppressor on your AR15/M16 rifle. The reality of current suppressor designs and manufacture is that not much is new in the world of suppressor design from one suppressor model to the next resulting in a performance in decibel reduction to the ear that is comparable from one suppressor to the next. Although our meters can quantify db differences between suppressors, db measurements will vary between days, guns, ammunition etc. As a result, we build our suppressor baffle stack first based on our meter and then modify it based on human perception feedback. For instance, a slightly higher db at a different frequency might appear quieter based on the shooter's ability to hear it. Similarly, duration of peak db will have a different impression on your ear. For instance, a micro second at one db level will set a peak level on our meter (regardless of its duration), but it still sounds more quiet than 2 or 3 times the peak length of time at a slightly lower db level. Based on the wide range of differences in db data collection, data integrity and data interpretation, we do not publish meter generated db reductions (which have become somewhat of a joke in the suppressor industry). We are confident that when you shoot an TAC16 suppressor, you'll agree that its performance delivers.

  4. COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLE TO CLEAN OR SERVICE

Our TAC16 suppressor, like our complete suppressor line, can be completely disassembled by the user to include the removal of the front endcap and all the internal baffles, and then cleaned and reassembled. Since .22LR ammunition of any configuration should never be shot through the TAC16 suppressor, it should not be necessary to disassemble the suppressor for cleaning. However, the ability to disassemble for service is a significant cost saving benefit. Disassembly and re-assembly should only be performed in strict compliance with our most currently published TAC16 Disassembly Procedure instructions.

  5. PROFESSIONALLY LASER ENGRAVED

To compliment the matte black blued finish, each suppressor is professionally laser engraved in compliance with BATFE marking requirements, indicating its serial number, model, manufacturer and caliber. Sure laser engraving costs a few dollars more than traditional rotary engraving, but anything less looks like it costs a lot less. The TAC16 suppressor delivers premium performance and appearance at a value cost.

  6. CAD DESIGNED and CNC MANUFACTURED

Every piece of an TAC16 suppressor is CAD designed and CNC manufactured in our modern CNC machine shop out of US certified steel. The backbone of any suppressor is the baffle stack and each baffle is individually machined. There are no stamped parts, hardware store washers, screens, wipes, grease or any other parts that will wear out. Our commitment to manufacturing excellence assures you consistent parts interchangeability and the finest workmanship available. We're proud of our baffle design, technology and workmanship and freely provide photographs for your review and evaluation. You wouldn't buy a car without knowing what engine was under the hood, demand the same for your suppressor.

  7. MULTIPLE PLATFORM VERSITILITY

One of the major advantages of a screw on "muzzle can" suppressor compared to an integrally suppressed firearm is that it can be used on multiple firearms to best suit the requirement. The TAC16 suppressor can easily be mounted on any .223 firearm that is correctly threaded 1/2x28 tpi by simply removing the factory flash hider and screwing the suppressor on in place of it. Based on our personal experiences as well as substantial customer feedback, we do not offer "quick detach" mounting systems due to the considerable increased costs as well as the necessity to frequently clean and maintain the mounting apparatus in order for it to continue to operate as intended.

  8. IF OUR NAME IS ON IT, WE MAKE IT AND SERVICE IT

Many other "manufacturers" put their name on a product that they don't build. EVERY TAC16 suppressor that we sell, we make every piece of it and are intimately familiar with its function, assembly and operation. We operate a fulltime firearm CNC manufacturing machine shop with live customer service, not answering machines. We have the parts, the staff and the experience in-house to service and troubleshoot our products, resulting in fast turnarounds and hassle free service for you, our valued customer. You should expect nothing less from any other suppressor manufacturer.

  9. MYTH: "IT HAS TO BE EXPENSIVE TO WORK WELL"

The truth is that suppressors don't have all that much material in them and volume production with our modern CNC lathes make manufacturing costs per unit very reasonable even with the increased costs of all steel construction and the associated increased machine times. We base our profit margins on volume, which means we can sell our suppressors at prices that are considerably lower than many other manufacturers' prices that produce small quantity runs or even individual "handmade pieces". Our modern CNC machines ensure the highest workmanship and consistent quality part after part. In addition to our economy of scale manufacturing volume, we do not run multiple expensive magazine ads each month and we do not print color catalogs with our suppressors surrounded by flashy artwork, both of which are expensive and the cost has to be added to the selling price of the suppressors. We bypass the expense and pass the savings on to you. Your satisfaction and referrals are our best advertising.

I met Craig at the 2005 SHOT show in Vegas. Placed an order for the Suppressor deal (TAC-16, TAC-52, TAC-65, P-22 adaptor and take down tools) Love them all! I have shot the snot out each one of these! Nothing but Full auto out of the 16 and close to 4000 rounds out of the .22 cans. Got concerned that I need to clean the cans and e-mailed Craig to see what I needed to do. I didn’t get a “Canned letter” (no pun intended) on “Check our FAQs. (Which I didn’t look at till after I sent off e-mail), but, I get a personal E-mail from Craig himself with tips and trick to keep them running. To Craig and his staff; a few full auto mag dumps thru the TAC-16 in your honor!

My dealer let me testfire this can compared to another brand one and I couldn't tell the difference, other than it was literally a couple $100 cheaper. I asked him about the quality of it and he ran a 100 round straight mag dump through it which was good enough for me. I've shot the h*** out of it since I got it and love it. Don't let the price fool you. This can is a deal.

I picked up a Tac16 can early this year and have about 2500 rounds thru it. Thing runs like a champ. I have only cleaned it a couple times and shoot it dry 95% of the time. I am very happy with it. I have friends with over 8k thru them with the same results!

I snagged one of these from a local dealer this summer. It is used on my SBR and let me tell you far exceeded the expectations for the amount $. My favorite combo. I have tried some tti subsonic through her also and was whisper quiet.

First, I have to say "WOW!" My family and I had a great time setting off Tannerite targets with my TAC16-suppressed AR15, last weekend. We couldn't believe how well your suppressor quieted the muzzle blast. It is definitely as good as you say it is. Thank you!

Just wonted to say what a great product the tac 65 is. I put it on my 10/22 & also my p22. It’s the best thing since sliced bread. I shot a number of different ammo thought it. I found the Remington did the best on the 10/22 and the federal did the best on the p22. Thanks again for a great product. In today’s world not very many things impress me but this is one cant wait to get my tac 16 thanks Brian.

I put a TAC-16 on my Kel-Tec PLR-16 and after over 600 rounds, it is still working flawlessly! I've had no problems using this suppressor on the PLR-16's 9.2 inch barrel using bullets that I have proven to be stable. And with subsonic rounds, it's quieter than a nail gun. And of course it works equally well on my preban Colt AR-15. It's built like a truck and does it's job well. Thanks for a great product!

It's been almost three weeks since I picked up my TAC16. I'm quickly approaching 500 rds. through it and all I can say about it is WOW, THIS IS GREAT!!!! The only downside of owning one of these is I need to start reloading to keep the fun going. In short, The TAC16 is fun to shoot and quite a hoot. If you're reading this and trying to decide on a suppressor for your .223. Do what I did, go with the TAC16. It can't be beat.
By John Of South Carolina
My first can is the tac-16 and am so pleased with the quality for the price. the Weight is an issue if you carry all day but not a problem at the range. Loaded subsonics in 55gr and is about as loud as a fast air rifle around 850-900fps and still goes through a 4x4. load data available at hodgdon's load data center for .223 55gr bullets have a good one and thanks for a great product.

  22. Is this price the "dealer" price or "retail" price?
  1. Can I really order this suppressor on-line and you'll ship it to me?!
Of course not... Suppressors (silencers) are NFA restriced firearms and must transfer in strict compliance with federal, state and local regulations. To purchase a suppressor, you should contact a Class 3 / NFA dealer in your state.
  2. Can anyone legally own a suppressor?
Depending on which state you live in and whether your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) will sign off, most individuals that can legally own a handgun can legally own an NFA firearm such as a suppressor or machine gun. To purchase a suppressor, you should contact a Class 3 / NFA dealer in your state.
  3. Can I shoot my suppressor on a fully automatic firearm?
The TAC16 suppressor IS rated for full auto fire as demonstrated in the accompanying video. Its heavy duty all steel construction is made for hard full auto fire. However, when used for full auto fire, care must be taken not to overheat the suppressor to the point that it could be damaged. You should use the same care that you would use with your firearm or automobile to ensure that you do not cross the line from use to abuse. Volume of fire, barrel length, ambient temperature etc will all be factors contributing to the duty cycle of the suppressor in full auto applications.
  4. Can I shoot .22LR through my TAC16 suppressor?
Many shooters want to use a .22LR conversion kit on their M16/AR15. Although the .22LR ammo will not damage the suppressor and sound reduction is excellent, we don't recommend it for two primary reasons. First, the TAC16 suppressor has a threaded front cap to allow cleaning or servicing if necessary. Shooting .22LR ammo through the can will literally solder it together, making it impossible to get apart in the future if you wanted or needed to. Secondly, as lead builds up in the suppressor, eventually when you shoot a .223 through the suppressor, one or more chunks of lead will break loose and hit the bullet while its still inside the suppressor and the bullet will tumble and impact the baffles and the endcap, causing extensive damage to the suppressor.
  5. Will the suppressor affect my accuracy?
The suppressor should have minimal shift change on the impact of the bullet as compared to shooting with no suppressor for general recreational target shooting. The additional weight on the barrel will change how the barrel flexes and vibrates when fired, which will change your point of impact. For general plinking, just shoot it, but before using the suppressor for hunting or other "serious" target shooting, you should re-sight the firearm with the suppressor installed to compensate for any differences.
  6. Can I shoot a TAC16 on multiple .223 rifles?
Absolutely! That's one of the advantages of having a muzzle can, screw on suppressor compared to an integrally suppressed firearm. You can use the TAC16 suppressor on any .223 firearm that is correctly threaded 1/2 x 28 tpi and that is capable of stabilizing the bullet after it leaves the barrel.
  7. What is the TAC16 suppressor db reduction?
We agree with other reputable manufacturers and have stopped publishing db reduction numbers. While we own and use the same meters for R&D and testing that other manufacturers use, we also tune our designs based on perceived "ear" noise, which is often contradictory to what the meter indicates. Sound from the TAC16 will sound like an unsuppressed .22LR due to the sonic crack from the bullet accellerating to supersonic speeds. The sonic crack is well in front of the shooter and depending on location, additional hearing protection is not usually necessary.
  8. How often should a TAC16 suppressor be disassembled for cleaning?
Since .223 ammo is jacketed, you will not experience the lead buildup that is a huge problem with .22LR suppressors. Under normal use conditions, you should never have to disassemble the suppressor to clean it. It can safely be cleaned by soaking it in a parts washer and then simply wash it out. The ability to disassemble is a bonus feature to allow you to relatively inexpensivly replace endcaps and or baffles if necessary, without the need to cut the can open as required by other manufacturers.
  9. Can I shoot a TAC16 on my short barrels? 6", 10" etc?
The shorter barrels pose a few problems for suppressors. First, the shorter barrels, depending on the bullet weight, have a much harder time trying to stabilize the bullet, ofter resulting in tumbling and off axis wobble. In a suppressor, either one will result in baffle and or endcap strikes. We've done some informal testing with a 10" barrel and wound up with some endcap hits. Any manufacturer's suppressor would have the same problem due to the inability of the barrel to stabilize the bullet. The second issue is heat. The shorter barrels put most of the powder into the suppressor, resulting in substantially more heat, which is not an issue as long as you use common sense to monitor suppressor temperatures before any heat related damage might occur.
  10. The suppressor looks great, but how can you sell it so inexpensively compared to other manufacturers?
We manufacture literally 1000s of suppressors in quantity runs and make our profit based on volume. We want to be your suppressor supplier and are willing to offer a quality suppressor that you can take apart to clean or service if necessary, at a price that is 1/2 to 1/3 less than almost all other manufacturers. We don't spend thousands of dollars on advertising and rely primarily on your satisfaction and referrals, and we pass the savings on you to. Dollar for dollar for price, performance, workmanship, customer service and company reputation, you will not find a better value for your money. Period.
  11. What support can I expect from Tactical Innovations if I have questions or need service?
Tactical Innovations is a FULL TIME NFA manufacturing facility, in business for over 13 years. We have fulltime staff to answer telephone calls during business hours. When you purchase from us or one of our dealers, you have the support of the manufacturer behind each suppressor. If you have a question or problem, you'll deal directly with the source, not a middle man with no manufacturing or product experience. We want your business and will do whatever we can to get it and earn it for future purchases.
  12. Can I send Tactical Innovations my gun(s) / barrel(s) to thread?
We currently are not taking in any barrel threading work due to peak manufacturing production demands. Most local gunsmiths as well as machine shops should be able to correctly thread your barrel for a nominal charge. We have a list of barrel threading tips that you can provide to your gunsmith or machine shop to help ensure a perfect job. In addition to barrel threading, you should consider our THREADED REPLACEMENT 10/22 BARRELS as well as THREAD ADAPTERS for many popular pistols such as the Walther P22, the SIG Mosquito etc.
  13. Can I shoot calibers other than .223, such as .22 Hornet, .22-250 and .222 etc through a TAC16 suppressor?
Although many customers have had good experiences shooting the TAC16 on firearms of calibers other than .223 at their own risk by using common sense and good judgement, the TAC16 is not rated for any caliber other than .223. In order for us to rate it for other calibers, we would have a responsibility to be able to provide purchasers with data regarding the safe use of the suppressor using different ammunition, from different barrel length firearms, that could be used without damaging the suppressor or potentially causing injury to the shooter and or bystanders. The time required to accurately generate that data is not commensurate with the demand, so we've instead elected to rate the TAC16 for use ONLY with .223 ammunition. Other calibers, such as .22 Hornet, .22 Magnum, .222 etc, while still .22 caliber bullets, will have varying pressures and could damage the suppressor and / or cause personal injury to the shooter or bystanders, and therefore their use is not recommended and they should not be used for other calibers. Safe firearm handling and use would preclude the use of any firearm or suppressor with ammunition other than that for which it was designed.
  14. Can I request a custom serial number?
Sorry, in order to keep our prices as low as possible, custom serial numbers are not available.
  15. Can I purchase the suppressor tube with no internals with no paperwork?
Of course not. The tube is a registered NFA firearm and must be transferred identically to a complete suppressor with the accompanying paperwork and tax due per federal law. It is not legal, please do not call to ask us.
  16. Can I purchase the internals or caps with no paperwork?
Absolutely not. Suppressor components, as in each individual internal piece, are restricted and cannot be sold to individuals per federal law. You can not buy one internal baffle or even one endcap. No "kit" is available for suppressors. It is not legal, please do not call to ask us. In the unlikely event your suppressor should need any service, it must be returned to our facility for service, no exceptions.
  17. Do you recommend any other accessories to go with this suppressor?
We offer our 12 point TAC16 Assembly / Disassembly Tool to make taking the suppressor apart for cleaning or service a much easier task. You also might want to get a Rubber Strap Wrench from SEARS if you don't already have one. Other than that, all you should need is ammo and a good hill!
  18. Can I thread other .223LR firearms to use the suppressor?
Although most AR15/M16 barrels are already threaded 1/2x28, any additional .223 firearms can also be threaded for use with the suppressor. We have a list of barrel threading tips that you can provide to your gunsmith or machine shop to help ensure a perfect job. Barrels that are threaded incorrectly will result in suppressor damage.
  19. Can I use a muzzle nut coupling instead of threading my barrels for use with my TAC65 suppressor?
While the use of a muzzle nut coupling instead of threading multiple barrels appears to be an inexpensive and fast solution to threading each barrel, the use of any muzzle nut coupling would void any factory complimentary repair work because as the bores of the barrels are drilled, the drill "walks" a little from the starting end to the muzzle end. This means that the bore is never EXACTLY in the middle of the barrel, so if you clamp a muzzle coupling on the the barrel, the bore will be off center to the suppressor and there is a high probabilty that you will shoot your endcap and / or baffles, causing sever damage to the suppressor.
  20. How much is shipping on this suppressor?
Suppressor shipping costs vary depending on the carrier you prefer and your geographic location. Shipping options are available on our shopping cart as part of the Checkout Process. In order to save time and money, we would encourage you to purchase from a local in-state stocking dealer. In the event no stocking dealer is available, we will ship to any Class 3 dealer that you designate.
  21. Will Tactical Innovations rebuild other manufacturers' suppressors that I now own?
At present we only service our own suppressors. You should contact the manufacturer of your other suppressors for them to service it. We do not service or rebuild other manufacturers' suppressors.
  22. Is this price the "dealer" price or "retail" price?
Individuals may purchase this suppressor on-line but must work out the transfer arrangements and fees with their local in-state Class 3 dealer. FFL dealers with a current SOT should fax (208-267-1597) or email their dealer paperwork for confidential dealer pricing on single units as well as additional discounts for quantity purchases. Call or email if you have any questions and we'll be glad to help.

It should not be necessary to disassemble your TAC16 suppressor under normal use conditions. However, it is designed and manufactured to be able to be disassembled in the event you might need to replace an endcap or baffle caused by a bullet strike or to allow us to rebuild the suppressor when the blast baffles are sufficiently worn to require service. We do not recommend disassembling it for cleaning after each use. Since .223 uses a jacketed bullet, you will get carbon and dirt buildup in the can, but not lead like you would get with a .22LR suppressor. Cleaning without disassembly can easily be accomplished with either an ultrasonic cleaner or simply soak it by immersion in a parts washer. DO NOT use gasoline or kerosene. You stand the risk of exploding the suppressor when you next fire it. Drain it completely, shaking out any excess parts washer cleaning fluid, fire a round or 2 to get the remaining cleaner out and then lightly mist spray with non-flamable oil if desired.

DISASSEMBLY STEPS:
Should you decide to disassemble the suppressor:

  1. ENSURE YOUR FIREARM IS NOT LOADED
After ensuring that your firearm is not loaded, remove the suppressor from the firearm. You CANNOT take it apart while its still attached to the firearm.
  2. SOAK THE SUPPRESSOR
The can should be soaked at least overnight to aid in disassembly. We recommend a gallon of WD40 in a large plastic jar and leave it in to soak overnight. Spraying some oil into the can will be of minimal to no benefit. Soak it. After soaking, remove from the oil, drain, wash the exterior to remove any oil, dry the exterior.
  3. REMOVE FRONT ENDCAP
You will need our 12 point driver tool and a 1/4 breaker bar or ratchet. Get an assistant to hold the can flat on a table with a soft rag on it and push the ratchet to the table to loosen the front endcap. After the endcap is loose, unscrew it and dump the baffles and spacers out. Depending on carbon buildup, they may be difficult to remove.
  4. REMOVE BAFFLES FROM TUBE
After the endcap is loose, unscrew it and dump the baffles and spacers out. Depending on carbon buildup, they may be difficult to remove.
  5. CLEAN THE TUBE ID & INSIDE OF ENDCAPS
Use a soft brush to clean the inside of the tube so that you can slide the baffles back in for reassembly. Do not use any hard brushes that will damage the finish inside of the suppressor tube. After a lot of use, it may become necessary to clean the 1/2x28 thread with a class 2B tap. A tap can be purchased on line from MSCDIRECT. Use caution when chasing the threads with a tap since the tap is capable of incorrectly cutting new threads in the cap. The tap should by used by hand only to clean the existing threads if necessary.
  6. CLEAN THE BAFFLES
The baffles and spacers can be scrubbed with Hoppes #9 or bead blasted if you have a cabinet available. The pieces do not have to be shiny and bright, as long as any heavy build up is removed.
  7. REASSEMBLY
Assembly is the reverse of disassembly with the following notes. Do not interchange the thick baffles which appear identical but are different thicknesses. The bullet goes through the thickest "fat baffle" first and then the thickest of the machined fat baffles with the machined side always toward the gun. The thin baffles are interchangable. The bullet should pass through the mountain first, not the valley. After reassembling, torque the endcap as tightly as possible. Visually verify that the bullet path through the suppressor is unobstructed. Shoot 3-5 rounds to compress the baffle stack and then retorque the cap. You should have approx .003 to .005 gap (the thickness of a piece of paper) between the cap and the end of the tube upon reassembly. If there is more than that, the baffles are not clean and the dirt is making them longer and / or you need to torque the front cap a little more. Visually verify that the bullet path through the suppressor is unobstructed. Shoot 3-5 rounds to compress the baffle stack and then retorque the cap.

GENERAL NOTES:
  1. REPLACEMENT PARTS
If you need any replacement parts for your suppressor, the suppressor will need to be returned. We will not ship individual parts even if you send us your damaged parts.
  2. DON'T DAMAGE THE SUPPRESSOR
If you follow these disassembly steps, you'll notice that no propane torches, vice grips, pipe wrenches etc are specified in the disassembly SOP. If you use alternate holding and turning methods, please MAKE SURE that you don't damage the suppressor. The potential for most damage should be obvious before it happens. You should be able to disassemble and reassemble your suppressor for a lifetime of use without damaging the unit.
  3. I CAN'T GET IT APART / I DON'T WANT TO FOOL WITH IT
If you give up and can't get it apart, or you just don't want to fool with it, BEFORE you damage the suppressor, we can usually get any suppressor apart at our facility. Disassembly and cleaning is based on our shop rate of $65 / hour with a one hour minimum. Depending on how badly your suppressor is leaded together, we can usually get it disassembled and back together in approx an hour of shop time as well as whatever parts need to be replaced. Contact us for a work order form before shipping your suppressor back to us.

Email or call if any questions, we're glad to help!

HOW TO BUY A SUPPRESSOR

  • First you will have to locate a Class 3 dealer in your state that will assist you with the transfer for a pre-agreed upon fee.  ANY class 3 dealer in your state can receive and transfer you a suppressor.   We CANNOT sell you a suppressor directly. You must go through an in-state Class 3 dealer.
  • A law enforcement signature is no longer necessary to purchase a suppressor.  You will have to "notify" the chief law enforcement officer when you submit your paperwork to ATF.  Your local dealer will be able to assist you with the paperwork process as part of the transfer process.
  • Have your in state Class 3 dealer send us a copy of his license with a legible signature and a copy of his SOT receipt if we don't already have it on file. Your in-state Class 3 dealer will help you with the paperwork required to complete the transfer.

SUPPRESSOR PURCHASING REQUIREMENTS

Most people are not aware that an average citizen can own a machine gun or a suppressor (silencer) by completing the appropriate paperwork and paying the corresponding fees. Here is a summary of the basic requirements for NFA ownership (suppressors or machine guns):
  • You have to live in a state that allows its citizens to own the type of firearm that you want to purchase. For instance, some states do not allow any NFA firearms, others allow machine guns but not suppressors while most others allow all NFA.  Your local in-state Class 3 dealer will be able to tell you if you can legally own a suppressor in your state.  Obviously if you are in anti-gun states such as CA, you can NOT own a suppressor.
  • If you can legally own a handgun, then you can legally own a suppressor.  A state issued concealed carry permit has no bearing on an NFA transfer for a suppressor.
  • You have to meet the federal requirements of the 4473 "Yellow Form", such as 21 or older, clean criminal background, no dishonorable discharge, US citizen, etc. Basically if you can legally purchase a handgun, you can legally purchase an NFA (Class 3) firearm.
  • There is no license required to own an NFA (Class 3) firearm. There is a one time tax that must be paid to ATF when you apply to have the registration transferred to your name. There is no ongoing yearly fees charged by the ATF. For machine guns, suppressors, short barrel shotguns, short barrel rifles and destructive devices, there is a one time $200 tax in addition to the purchase price of the firearm. For an AOW (Any Other Weapon) firearm, there is a $5 transfer tax. Even if you purchase 10 machine guns and 10 suppressors, EACH one would have a $200 tax. ATF will issue a tax stamp for $200 upon your approval and that tax stamp along with the form that it is affixed to is your receipt and proof of legal ownership.
  • You have to be fingerprinted by the CLEO and the print cards are submitted to ATF along with your $200 tax and your completed Form 4 (Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of an NFA Firearm).
  • You have to have the serial number before any paperwork can be printed or processed to begin the transfer to you which means that you have to pay for your firearm in order to start paperwork unless other arrangements are made between you and your instate dealer.
  • It takes about 180 days for ATF to approve the transfer of your NFA firearm to you. During that time, your local dealer who provided you with the Form 4 application, will maintain possession and ownership. After ATF approves the transfer and returns the approved Form 4 to your local dealer, then you can take possession of the suppressor.
  • Some states (such as LA, MD etc) have additional state transfer and licensing requirements. Your local dealer that is handling your transfer will be able to advise you regarding any additional requirements that are specific to your state.

TOTAL COST FOR NFA PURCHASE

Everyone wants to know what is the TOTAL Bottom line cost for buying an NFA firearm. Here is our best attempt to give you a total cost. Remember that it will vary by state and local requirements and this list is intended to serve as an estimate, not as an all inclusive list encumpassing every possibility in every situation. Therefore we can not guarantee that your buying experience will work out financially exactly the same.
  1. Cost of the firearm and any accessories
  2. Shipping and insurance from us to your local in-state dealer if you don't buy it from an in-state stocking dealer.
  3. $200 one time transfer tax for EACH NFA item EVERY TIME YOU BUY ANOTHER ONE. There is no annual fee.
  4. Local Class 3 dealer charge, generally $50 - $100 but actual fee is between you and the dealer you workout. Different local in-state dealers charge different fees and also offer varying degrees of service. It's between you and your dealer. Stocking Dealers generally charge no fee since they are buying from us at wholesale and selling to you at MSRP.
  5. Local CLEO fee for finger prints. Some charge, some don't.

Given that you can meet the purchasing requirements outlined above, we will receive NFA firearms from out of state dealers and process Form 4 transfers to qualified ID residents for $100 per NFA firearm.
  • Larger firearms requiring more storage space, such as most beltfeds and Destructive Devices, will be subject to additional storage charges.
  • We are not selling you a gun, we are providing a transfer service. Sales tax, if due, is your responsibility.
  • A transfer is a transfer. We will not negotiate with your out of state dealer. We will not call him to ask questions. We will not get involved in any disputes or legal proceedings between you and your dealer. We will not process shipping damage claims. We will not fill out his paperwork for the transfer from the out of state dealer to us. For the $100 transfer fee, we will mail a license to the out of state dealer. We will receive your firearm and log it into our inventory. It must arrive shipping prepaid. We will not pay for any COD shipments, regardless of the amount. We will print and mail you paperwork and will store your firearm until ATF returns your approved transfer, at which time we will contact you to arrange a time for the transfer. You should inspect your firearm(s) before they are transferred to us.
