CH22™ BILLET MACHINED REAR CHARGING HANDLE REPLACEMENT 10/22® RECEIVER

Now your can have the functionality and familiarity of your AR15 receiver in your Ruger 10/22 rifle with our CH22 - "Charging Handle 22" Receiver. The receiver is precision machined to exacting tolerances from billet aluminum and incorporates a stainless steel charging handle that operates like your AR15 at a fraction of the cost. Upgrade your reliable Ruger 10/22 rifle to the next generation of functionality!

  1. STAINLESS STEEL REAR CHARGING HANDLE

The CH22 billet precision machined receiver incorporates a stainless steel charging handle in the rear of the receiver that eliminates the traditional factory charging handle on the side of the rifle. The charging handle for the CH22 receiver operates transparently within the integral picatinney rail. Like an AR15, the rear charging handle makes charging or clearing your rifle fast and easy. The charging handle does not reciprocate with the bolt each time the rifle is fired and it is secured firmly in the closed position using a spring loaded ball detent.

The use of a rear charging handle on the CH22 provides many functional and operational advantages not available with a traditional side charging factory bolt setup. Some of the advantages are:

SMALLER SIZE EJECTION PORT
The absence of the factory charging handle allows the ejection port size to be decreased since now you only need the ejection port for ejecting spent brass rather than having the port elongated to accommodate the charging handle. The smaller ejection port means that less dirt should be able to get into the gun and you have a more streamlined side appearance.

NO FACTORY RECIPROCATING CHARGING HANDLE
Having a rear charging handle means that you don't have the traditional factory charging handle flying back and forth each time you fire the rifle. Many shooters have added "Jumbo" and oversize charging handles to make the rifle easier to charge and clear but which also makes more mass reciprocating with each shot. The lack of a size charging handle also gives you a smooth side to the gun so you don't catch the charging handle on your gun case or your jacket when transporting or handling the rifle.

AMBIDEXTROUS FOR BOTH LEFT & RIGHT HANDED SHOOTERS
Left handed shooters rejoice! We can't make the brass come out the other side but the rear charging handle of the CH22 is truly ambidextrous offering the same convenient charging location for either right or left handed shooters.

FAMILIAR AR15 STYLE CHARGING MOTION
Now your Ruger 10/22 will have the same familiar functional feel as your AR15 style rifle. When you need to charge or clear the rifle, your brain already knows the location and the motion from operating your AR15 rifle thousands of times. That same familiarity will immediately make your CH22 rifle feel and function like a familiar friend rather than having to fumble for the bolt mounted charging handle.

MAINTAIN RIGHT HANDED GRIP ON RIFLE WHILE CHARGING OR CLEARING
A right handed shooter does not naturally want to reach across the rifle and charge the bolt on the right side of the rifle with his left hand. Most Ruger 10/22 shooters will put the rifle in their left hand and charge with their right hand, which takes their shooting grip off the rifle each time. With the CH22 receiver, your right hand stays on the stock where it should be and your left hand charges the rifle. You never have to change your grip when firing or clearing the rifle!

  2. EASILY ASSEMBLE USING YOUR FACTORY 10/22 OR CHARGER PARTS

The CH22 Receiver comes with all the parts you need to easily convert your Ruger 10/22 rifle or Ruger Charger pistol to operate as a rear charging firearm. In addition to the CH22 receiver, the following parts are included as standard:
  • Stainless Steel Charging Handle
  • Recoil Spring & Operating Rod Assembly
  • Receiver Rear Barrel Cleaning Plug
Your Ruger factory parts, such as the stock, barrel, and trigger pack will quickly and easily assemble on the CH22 receiver. In addition, most other manufacturer's 10/22 drop-in aftermarket parts will also easily assemble on a CH22 receiver. Its your option to use factory parts and upgrade your factory rifle or complete a custom rifle using all high quality after market replacement parts.
  3. VIRGIN RECEIVER CAN BE ASSEMBLED AS A RIFLE OR A PISTOL

Since the CH22 receiver has never been assembled as either a rifle or a pistol, ATF classifies it as a virgin receiver which allows you to assemble it in either a rifle or a pistol configuration. Its designation would be determined based on the configuration in which it is first assembled. The CH22 receiver is the perfect foundation for either a custom pistol or a precision rifle.

  4. RECEIVER PRECISION MACHINED FROM AIRCRAFT GRADE BILLET ALUMINUM BLOCKS

The CH22 Replacement 10/22 Receiver starts as a 1 1/2 pound solid billet of 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum. Extensive CNC machining converts the solid block into an 8.3 ounces  precision receiver that does not have the rougher surface finish and casting imperfections that a cast receiver would frequently include. All dimensions of the receiver are held to close tolerances for reliable consistency.

We offer a variety of Ruger 10/22 Accessories to compliment your custom built rifle, such as Replacement Barrels, TI25 Machined Aluminum Mags, TI25 Advanced Composite Mags as well as Stocks and Flash Hiders.

  5. CLEAN FROM THE CHAMBER TO THE MUZZLE

Target shooters have always known that the correct way to clean a rifle is from the chamber and out the muzzle rather than pushing all the dirt from the barrel into the receiver and potentially damaging the barrel crown with the cleaning rod. Our receivers have a 1/4" hole in the rear of the receiver that allows you to put a cleaning rod in the rear of the receiver, then attach the brush and swab the barrel from the chamber to the muzzle without having to remove the barrel (and loose your zero each time). The cleaning access hole is cosmetically covered with a snap fit plug that blends with the rear of the receiver when installed and that is completely hidden when the receiver is in the stock.
  6. EXTENDED PICATINNY PRECISON MACHINED RAIL

Rather than put a lesser quality cast rail on a precision machined receiver, our Picatinny rail is also machined from solid billet aluminum as a part of the receiver rather than a bolted on accessory. The hard black anodized Picatinny style rail extends beyond the front of the receiver to provide additional optic mounting options. The rail is mil-spec to fit popular scopes and accessory optics such as Eotech or Reddot optics from most major manufacturers.
  7. HARD ANODIZED AND PROFESSIONALLY LASER ENGRAVED

The receiver is matte finished for durability and appearance and is professionally hard black anodized. Anodizing is not a paint or a spray on finish, its a molecular change in the surface of the aluminum that forms crystals (like diamonds) on the outside of the material. Its the same finish that space and defense contractors and the military require on their parts.

To compliment the matte black anodized finish, each receiver is professionally laser engraved in compliance with BATFE marking requirements, indicating its serial number, model and manufacturer information. Laser engraving costs a few dollars more than traditional rotary engraving, but anything less looks like it. The CH22 receiver delivers in appearance and performance at a value cost.

  8. IF OUR NAME IS ON IT, WE MAKE IT AND SERVICE IT

Many other "manufacturers" put their name on a product that they don't manufacture. Our CH22 receiver is CAD designed and CNC manufactured in our modern CNC machine shop out of USA certified aircraft grade aluminum. We are intimately familiar with its function, assembly and operation and are committed to providing shooters with a product that meets or exceeds their expectations.

We operate a full time firearms and related accessories CNC manufacturing machine shop with live customer service and have the parts, the staff and the experience in-house to service and troubleshoot our products, resulting in fast turnarounds and hassle free service for you, our valued customer. As always, we appreciate your business!

I've had my CH22 for 4 months now and not able to say enough positive things about it. Great quality and is a great start for a tactical 10/22 build.

CH22 Receiver is a great product. I use an AR15 style brass catcher and it is always in the way when using the standard 10/22 bolt handle. Now I can strap the catcher on and shoot till it is full without the hassle of always having to readjust it after a clearing or magazine change. The built in picatinny rail also gives more scope clearance with the large AO scopes I use on my varmint 10/22's. Spendy yes? Worthy every penny, you bet! You will forget about the cost once you have tried one and will never want to go back to the OEM type on any future builds. Also you can't put a price on the coolness factor and the comments you get at the range.

Its about time someone came up with something new for a 10/22 instead of all the recycled stuff over and over. If you are an AR fan like I am, you will love this receiver. The rear charging handle is solid stainless steel and is a good way to cock the bolt without having to reach around the gun to the other side. The machining quality is very high and the finish is also very high. This receiver is one of the few things that I've bought for awhile that actually was a nice as I hoped it would be. Now how about one in 22 magnum?????

This receiver is very well made and is a good update to a proven design. The rear charging handle allows you to cock the gun or clear a jam without having to fumble around with it. The charging handle is heavy duty metal and not cheap plastic. If you are going to put together a pistol (or a rifle), don't forget to also get the vblock to attach the barrel. It does not come with one and you will need it. If you are a 10/22 lover like I am, this is a good addition to your collection.

Works fantastic! At first there were some hang-ups with the charging handle (When a shot was fired the spent case would get stuck between the charging handle and the bolt or the case wouldn't fully eject and get smashed between the edge of the ejection port and the bolt) but after firing a couple hundred rounds through it (Probably just needed breaking in). It maybe jams once in 250 shots after the first 500 rds ish. Great addition to any 10/22! Barrel used - Tactical Innovations .920 1/16 twist threaded barrel Stock used - Hogue Overmold Stock bolt Stock trigger Note: Didn't work very well with the factory magazine but with Butler Creek Steel Lips 25rd. magazine it worked fantastic.

I love the design of this receiver, and it is a nicely machined piece. I do like the fact that there is no charging handle hanging out the side for multiple reasons. Nothing to snag and makes for a slimmer package. Cool! Operation has been another thing. With about 200 rounds through it, It still jams -a lot. I have pretty good luck with factory Ruger 10 round rotary mags - it cycles through those pretty much without a hitch now -but early on jammed every few shots. However, Tactical Innovations own mags, including my (gorgeous) billet machined aluminum one will not feed this thing and it's driving me nuts. Jams almost *every* shot. I've adjusted them all over the place. Just like another poster stated -the jams are between the bolt and the charging handle forward end -best as I can figure. Sometimes they end up jammed between the bolt and the forward end of the port. I am using a factory Ruger bolt, but have replaced the extractor with an EDM cut one. That helped a bit. Next thing to try is a CNC bolt -but getting this thing to work reliably is getting more expensive than I'd like.

The barrel to receiver fit is critical for the assembly process.  If the barrel is loose in the receiver, when you tighten the V-block screws it will cause the barrel to droop so that you will never be able to get the scope dialed in.  We plug gauge the receiver barrel hole in each receiver before shipping to ensure that its within the correct tolerance.  The barrel manufacturers (including our barrels) also hold their barrel shanks often on the larger end of the tolerance scale to ensure that its not going to be loose in any receiver that you may put it in.

When you have a precision receiver that is holding the hole tolerance and a barrel that is also trying to compensate and be capable of being used in any receiver with varying hole diameters, then the barrel can be too tight for the receiver hole which is a common occurrence.  The logic is that its far better for it to be a little too tight so it can be fitted to the receiver rather than be too loose.

The fitting of the barrel to the receiver can be accomplished by any one of multiple methods, depending on what resources you have available.  All material should be removed from the barrel shank since its much easier to get to it and to keep round.  If you don't need to take much off, you can use sandpaper on the barrel shank until the shank is a light press fit to the receiver.  If more material is required to be removed, you'll have to use a wide flat file on the barrel shank as you slowly turn the barrel.  Usually you only have to polish off a few .001's so sandpaper is all that's required and you'll wind up with a perfect barrel to receiver light press fit.
