PROJECT UPDATE: 12/21/06
We have received a letter from BATFE based on their
evaluation of a functional production prototype FULL AUTO OPEN BOLT AM15 .22LR
Upper Receiver caliber conversion unit.
ATF concluded "FTB finds that the AM15 is an upper receiver and has
not had significant design changes that would warrant classification as a
firearm". A copy of the actual
letter will be posted when we get the webpage updated. No registration as a firearm will be required
and it will be able to be shipped to individuals. However, an FFL/SOT or a Form 4 copy will
need to be provided to us prior to shipping a full auto AM15.
As a result of ATF's letter decision, we are moving forward
to begin deliveries of FULL AUTO OPEN BOLT units. Full auto pre-order depositors will soon
receive a letter via US Mail with additional information and options in
preparation of shipping. We will
continue to NOT accept any additional pre-orders until the existing short list
of pre-orders has been fulfilled. At
that time, retail sales from in stock units will be offered as available.
Delivery of semi-auto units has been temporarily postponed
while we divert our time and resources to delivering the OPEN BOLT FULL AUTO
units.
Per our last update, the OPEN BOLT FULL AUTO AM15 uses LMG
fire control parts, which will be included with the AM15 as part of the caliber
conversion. At this time, it will not
operate with a RDIAS or lightning links.
Additional information regarding operation with RDIAS's as well as
closed bolt full auto AM15's will be forthcoming. Please don't call to ask about either. No additional information is available at
this time. Customers that have deposits
pending for an AM15 can at anytime request a refund in writing and the deposit
will be refunded in full.
While we of course sympathize with Tom Bowers and the Akins
Group, we have no information regarding the situation other than what we all
have read at www.firefaster.com. Please do not call for our opinion,
perspective or guess regarding the process or the outcome. Inquiries relating to the Akins Accelerator
should be directed to the Akins Group.
